I've decided to challenge myself to record more songs, and I thought trying "quick and dirty" recordings might help. It'll also be good for me to learn that things don't always have to be perfect to be good. These will have minimal editing, probably just a single take with instrumental playing lightly in the background. But they're a lot less stressful to make and I might even be able to make myself make them more frequently!

I'm also going to try to continue doing all of the artwork for my videos myself now ^_^

I've always found the music in Studio Ghibli movies to be among the best soundtracks I've heard, and Tales from Earthsea did not disappoint. "Teru no Uta" is absolutely beautiful in its simplicity, particularly when pared down to a single piano accompaniment. I cannot ever hope to match Aoi Teshima's beautiful rendition, but the song moved me so much I was compelled to make my own cover of it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

This song and its corresponding official MV are just too cute. I'm sure the fact they're all wearing exactly my sort of fashion helps. As I was listening to it, a video idea just popped up in my head, so I decided to try and make it! My living space is not ideal for this, but it worked reasonably enough. All the choreography is my own, although the necklace bit was inspired by the original video.

I originally did my usual karaoke-style cover for this song, but Youtube picked it out for muting. So I decided I would accept the challenge of actually playing my own backing track. The instrumental was a challenge to make, since it involved figuring out by ear how to play all the parts myself. It's simpler than the original instrumental, but given that it's my first time attempting this sort of thing, I'm reasonably pleased with it. It has separate piano, strings, and bass sounds (all played on an electronic keyboard). With more practice, I might even get better at learning things by ear!

This song (and this genre of songs in general) is really terrible for my voice type, but I adore this anime and all of the music in it!! Plus, this is a really inspiring song, especially for people going through the struggles of finding themselves and figuring out what they want to do in life. This is one of those songs that just hits a deep chord with me, in terms of the message carried in the lyrics. I've included a translation below for those who are interested. The title is "I am Me" which is something that I often have to remind myself of. And you guys get to see a slideshow of random pictures of me ^_^

Over the past months, I've been trying very hard to find the "me" that has been hidden under layers and layers, and years and years, of expectations and constraints placed on my first by other people, and eventually be myself as well. I can't say that I've found myself yet, but I feel like I'm beginning to accept my own interests and ambitions for what they are, rather than what I feel like they "should" be. I spent quite a while choosing a song that I felt really represented how I feel about the new year this time around, and finally came to the conclusion that this one best captures both the hope and uncertainty I have right now.

Merry Christmas everybody!!

This year has been one with lots of big changes in my life, and as the time to reflect comes around, the overarching feeling I have this year is one of gratefulness. I have so many wonderful people in my life, both old and new, who have supported me through the low points, and helped my celebrate the high points in this past year. I chose this song, "Eternal" by Akanashi Jin, because I feel that it really captures much of the immense gratitude I feel towards everyone who has helped me become who I am.

This is a lovely song that I've always wanted to cover. It's "Scarlet" from 'Ayashi no Ceres' (a lovely, if sad, anime by the way) originally sung by Iwao Junko.

I tried actually showing myself singing in this video... not sure if good thing or not yet, but I do know I love my little Flip camera. I just wish it had a wider capture range, or that I had a larger space so I could actually use it to video my dancing.

Speaking of which, I made up some random choreography to fill in the instrumental break. Obviously, I need more space to actually dance in, and so I can put my camera far away enough that I'm not off the screen half the time T_T But I tried...?
